Music Reminder

Good afternoon parents,

Monday will see music resume, so please be sure that your child has his or her recorder as they will be practicing on them again on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

Monday

Good afternoon folks,

Monday is Red Shirt day, so send students in their red Hilldale shirts.

Also, our science fair proposals are due and parents are to sign the proposals before submission on Monday. Many are done while some may need a little extra time, but please help to ensure that forms are returned on Monday.

Finally, while work is not being returned today, I will send students home with recent spelling tests, wordly wise tests, and math quizzes early next week and will notify you when they are coming home.

Thank you,

Mr Dyson

Quiz return

Happy Friday folks,

Homework folders are coming home today with some spelling tests, a math quiz, and returned behavior/internet policy forms. All of those have been logged into the computer and are yours to keep.

Have a great weekend,

Mr. Dyson

Swimming

Good afternoon parents,

We have been getting questions regarding swimming this week and the groups have been divided this way:

Tuesday:
Landon
Jada
Anwen
Paulina
Reid
Aidyn
Sophie
Fiona
Simona
Christian
Misha
Haley
Bobby
Christina

Thursday:

Amelie
Amer
Ishaan
Makai
Emma

While the groups may seem lopsided, they are set up based on water confidence, which will allow each group to get the most out of their pool sessions.
For the first week or two, if students forget their swim gear, we can try to have them make up their lessons. When they are not swimming, students will have normal PE class. Because Ms. Weaver will not be here Thursday and next Tuesday, the following Thursday will be the first swim session with the smaller group so be sure to send them with their suits NEXT THURSDAY.

Thanks,

Mr. Dyson

The Week Ahead 8-29

The Week Ahead

8/29/16

General Notes:

Wednesday we have July and August birthday lunch, where students eat pizza in the office, so for those students with birthdays in July/August, look forward to that lunchtime treat. Thursday is Wacky Dress Day, so send your children to school dressed as wacky as possible (that doesn't mean dressed casually, it means genuine silliness! have fun!). Next Monday is Labor Day and school will be closed!

Subject Breakdown

English/Language Arts

We are reading a story called 'Lewis and Clark and Me' this week. We have our spelling menu assignment that is a week long 'pick your assignment' piece that has students earn 30 points over the course of the week using the spelling words on 55 of the reader's and writer's notebook.

Math

We are working on rounding numbers this week. Students generally did well on the first quiz of the year and we will look to keep things rolling with a second quiz on Friday.

Social Studies

We continue our introduction to states and regions this week as well as practicing latitude and longitude and other mapping activities.

Science

Our first science project on animal adaptations was completed last week and we will be doing another experiment on that subject this week.

Ethics

Last week we began reading about Harriet Tubman, one of our third grade heroes and we will continue learning about her this week.

Writing

We will finalize our riding freedom book reports this week.
