Second Grade is an important year for developing independence at Hilldale School. In Second Grade, the students learn how to use agendas to keep track of their homework assignments, and they learn how to keep their school materials organized by folders.
They are also studying for and taking tests and quizzes in the core subjects -- Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. Along with hands-on projects, these assessments lead to letter grades at the end of each term. Second Grade is the first year in which students earn letter grades at Hilldale.
Second Graders learn cursive handwriting and typing as well as Google Classroom. Other new concepts for Second Graders are map skills, United States geography and history, economics, India, China, and Japan, and the study of communities. Second Graders also delve into study of the San Francisco community and take many field trips to support their learning in this area!
