Hilldale Student Shines at State Chess Championship

Congratulations to David on earning first place!

04-22-2026

Hilldale School is proud to celebrate an exciting achievement by one of our students! This weekend, David earned 1st Place at the 2026 CalChess State Championships.

Competing against students from across the state, David demonstrated impressive focus, strategic thinking, and perseverance throughout the tournament. His hard work and dedication to improving his chess skills truly paid off with this outstanding result.

Chess is a game that challenges the mind, requiring players to think several moves ahead, adapt to changing situations, and remain calm under pressure. Through playing chess, students strengthen critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills—abilities that extend far beyond the board, into the classroom, and into everyday life. David’s success reflects not only his commitment to the game but also the discipline and resilience he has developed along the way.

We are incredibly proud of David. Congratulations on this well-deserved victory!
