Mrs. Olga Kleytman brings significant teaching experience, inordinate artistic talent, and a passion for Art Education to her role as Art Teacher. Her warm personality contributes to her positive classroom environment. She has a 9 year old son, Misha, who has been the subject of many of her art pieces. Mrs. Kleytman holds a BA and an MA in Education and her teaching certification from Ukraine. She exhibited two pieces at the Next Generation Showcase at the De Young Museum, entitled "Sanctuary," and it was shown in April of 2016. She has been teaching at Lafayette Elementary School through the Art in Action program and at her private studio, Artek SF, where she has taught youth group art classes since 2011.

Claude Monet at de Young museum!
Claude Monet was a famous French painter and one of the founders of the impressionism movement (which we will study later this year).
The exhibition features nearly 50 paintings by Claude Monet dating mainly from 1913 to 1926, the final phase of the artist’s long career. During his late years, the well-traveled Monet stayed close to home, inspired by the variety of elements making up his own garden at Giverny, a village located about forty-five miles from Paris. With its evolving scenery of flower beds, footpaths, willows, wisteria, and nymphaea, the garden became a personal laboratory for the artist’s concentrated study of natural phenomena.
 
Students of 7th and 8th grades completed their study of wooden manikins. Artists drew manikins from observation using white and black charcoals on toned paper, with paper tone being a middle value.
This exhibition at Legion of Honor explores the cultural and material exchanges between India and Europe through jewelry and precious objects ranging from the sixteenth century to the present. It features more than 150 pieces made in India or Europe associated with Mughal emperors, maharajas, and their courts. These objects include jewelry to be worn on ceremonial occasions, weapons such as swords and daggers, and precious works of art for display or use.
Arts For Future is inviting students from all over the world to use their talents, imagination, and creativity to create original artwork “Our World, Our Future”.  2018-19 California International Student Art Contest is launched by 501C3 Non-Profit Organization Arts for Future and Peninsula Museum of Art.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Through the Awards, students receive opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. 
 
This is a great opportunity for artists and writers ages 13 and up!

Welcome to art class page! 

This school year our art class schedule has changed slightly. Kindergarten, 4th and 5th grades will join me in the studio on Wednesdays. All other grades will continue to have art classes on Fridays.

The homework assignment will be given to students (grades 2 through 8) every art class meeting and is due the following art class. Sketchbook should accompany the student to each art class.

 I am looking forward to seeing you all at Back to School night!

Some of the students brought to my attention that their homework sketchbooks were filled with drawings and there were no more pages left! That's excellent! 
Here is the link to art supply stores that carry the kind of sketchbook we are using this year. They are sold in a pack of 3. It's called Moleskin Cahier Journal in Red, size Large (5X8.25 IN)

Last week students of 2,3 and 4th grade completed their wonderful drawings inspired by the theme of the US. Kids Magazine contest. All of the works now can be seen (and downloaded) on our artsonia page.
 
Students are aware that to enter the contest they need parental permission. They know it is NOT mandatory to enter the contest.

  • Residents of the U.S. between the ages of 2 and 12 may enter the art contest.
  • Artists ages 6-12 years old should enter Jack and Jill Magazine’s contest.
  • This year’s theme is “My Imaginary Creature.”
  • The contest ends February 12, 2018.
  • One entry per person.

U.S. Kids magazine cover contest is up and running! Each year, readers and students from around the country share their creative talents by entering this annual cover contest. The winning entry is featured on the front cover of Jack and Jill or Humpty Dumpty magazine, with second-, third-place, and Readers’ Choice winners’ art showcased inside the same issue. In addition, U.S. Kids also recognizes winners’ art departments and teachers with cash awards to help support their programs!
