Hello, 5th Graders!

Our very last art class assignment this year is the most important of them all! 

I have been observing you working on your projects throughout this year, using different approaches, techniques, styles and mediums. This time I want you to think about what you really like to draw. Some artists prefer to focus on portraiture, others paint still lifes or landscapes. Most of the artists have preferred tools or medium (paint, pencil, pastels, clay, paper collages). Use your artistic license, create something that you'd like to share with the world!

This week's homework assignment is a seascape.

Our next homework sketch assignment is "Shapeshifters".

There are a lot of examples of shapeshifters in Greek and Roman Mythology ( Europa turning into a bull), folk tales (Princess Swan, Prince Frog, Beauty and The Beast), and current culture (Pokemon, Shrek, Twilight's werewolf). You can draw one of the stages of your shapeshifter or show both "sides" of the character. Please make sure to write down a title for your homework.

This week's homework assignment is to draw your favorite cartoon character. You might think of Walt Disney as an inspiration. Disney was a pioneer of the American animation industry. Pinocchio, Cinderella, Dumbo, Bambi, just to name a few of Disney's animated movies.

Your drawing, however, could be of any cartoon character!

This week's assignment is to draw a landmark. Landmark is an object or feature of a landscape or town that is easily seen and recognized from a distance, especially one that enables someone to establish their location. 

Pick a landmark located anywhere in the world and draw it. Please label your landmark with name and location!

This week's assignment is to draw a fruit. Choose a fruit that has simple shape (apple, pear, mango, banana). Work from observation. Take your time to look at your subject matter. Do not draw what you know, draw what you see! Use 2B pencil for hatching, cross hatching, or stippling.

I hope you are enjoying your long weekend! This week's homework assignment is to draw a historical figure.

Here's a short paragraph from Wikipedia:

"A historical figure is a famous person in history, such as Catherine the Great, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, or Napoleon. The significance of such figures in human progress has been debated. Some think they play a crucial role, while others say they have little impact on the broad currents of thought and social change. The concept is generally used in the sense that the person really existed in the past, as opposed to being legendary."

*Parents of 2nd and 3rd grades please talk to your children about who would be a good example of historical figure (as we haven't had a chance to have a class discussion).

As we enter the year of Brown Earth Pig, homework assignment is to draw a fictional pig character. I am attaching images of some very famous pigs! Please feel free to use any media for this assignment. Do not forget to add some red ( symbolizes joy and good fortune) and gold/yellow (good luck and unity).

The homework assignment for the next week is to draw a pair of shoes. Throughout the art history, many artists drew and painted shoes. Shoes make great still life and they can tell a lot about their owner! I am sharing some paintings and drawings of shoes for you to use as an example. Please work from observation and draw the pair of shoes you have at home.

The theme of the homework assignment for the next art meeting is "Winter Sport". Please draw a scene from any winter sport activity. Make sure that the person (or a team) you are drawing has the right equipment! Add background. You can use regular 2B pencil for this task ( use shading, hatching, and cross hatching) or some color pencils! I am attaching some winter sports ideas.
