Diwali is a very popular holiday in India, Singapore, and other South Asian countries. It is derived from the Hindu celebration of King Rama's defeat of Ravana and return to his kingdom. However, it is also a celebration of Lord Krishna and Lord Vishnu's triumphs. To some it is simply the very important Festival of Lights - a time of bringing light to the darkness of winter and celebrating with family, feasts, and fireworks.
Hilldale celebrates with wearing the colors found in the the rangoli designs - red, pure yellow, vivid magenta, and pure blue or by wearing lights on your clothing!
